The Recommended Record Stores to Visit in Bangkok City, Thailand

Following up from our coverage of the Bangkok Record Convention, we’ve rounded up a few recommended record stores in Bangkok, Thailand for this list!

1. ZudRangMa Records

Run by Paradise Bangkok’s DJ Maft Sai, this record store stocks World Music, Retro Funk and Soul, and also a lot of Thai Mor lam and Lukthung (Country Music).

2. 1979 Vinyl and Unknown Pleasures

Located in Thonglor’s Black Amber building, besides being a boutique vinyl store, it is also a concert space that can fit up to 40 people, regularly holding small indie gigs. They specialise in Brit Pop/Rock.

3. Broadway Record Store

This 50 year old record store run by Mr Chokchai Laphasakul, this store stocks a collection of Thai Mor lam, Lukthung, and 60s era oldies and others. All records are new, and they also sell cassettes, CDs, and turntables.

4. 8 Musique

8 Musique stocks secondhand and new CDs and vinyl records, and specialises on current and local indie-rock music. Look out for much sought after re-issues and local releases, and some really rare 50s music, which it’s owner, Mr. Pong, is more than happy to share.

5. Hall of Fame

Hidden in the heart of Fortune Town, this record store is probably the biggest one in Bangkok, with over 40 square metres of space hosting over 40,000 records that range from anything in thee 40s all the way to the 90s.

6. Recoroom Vinyl & Vintage Audio

This quaint little store is located at Ekkamai Shopping Mall, stocking a good range of Funk, Soul, Disco and Jazz records, and also vintage audio soundsystems.

7. Audio Minute

Found in Thaniya Plaza, this record shop can be hard to get into because of their flexible opening hours, so call ahead before making a visit. They stock an excellent selection of 80s music and alt-pop.

8. Thang Siang Thai

This record shop is over 70 years old, filled with classics from the 60s and 70s, and a lot of Thai and Chinese oldies are proudly displayed all over the store. You can also buy second hand turntables home.

9. Fatblack Record

Located at Crystal Design Center, this store offers new releases and classics of Indie/Pop/Rock bands and also sell turntables.

10. Garage Records

Garage Records recently opened a small shop in Lad Phrao after initially starting their business online. They focus on 80’s-90’s rock music.

11. Bryter Later

This hidden away store is own by the same people who run hip vintage store The Trapeze Swingers on Phra Arthit, and it’s name after the classic album from 60s folk singer Nick Drake. Vinyl lovers will be pleased with the jazz, blues and soul selection.

12. Heaven and Hell Records Shop

If you’re visiting the famed Chatuchak market, you will have to pop by this store. Tucked away in Section 22, there you will find, not only vinyl, but cds, cassettes and tee-shirts too. Definitely one for the discerning metalhead.

13. Tonchabab Record Shop

 

This is a family run business that has two branches for the curious music lover. It has a collection of many records that come in all genres, and you can find many world music treasures, and 60s – 80s hits and Thai Lukthung.
