The recently released down-tempo electronic LP is a space themed album

In 2014, Jack White came out with some spinning angel holograms on the Ultra LP edition of Lazaretto (apparently the etchings were done by hand). The Star Wars Force Awakens soundtracks followed soon after the following year, producing TIE Fighter and Millennium Falcon projections on each side respectively.

In 2017, Portland duo A Cosmic Gift have somehow managed to concoct FOUR holograms (of Stars!) projecting simultaneously on the vinyl when you give it a spin.

Back in the HQ and received this amazing holographic record. Full details on this mysterious record will be up on our site soon. Do watch out for the next announcement! . Richard Houghton, one half of the duo and also a vinyl cutting engineer tells us the holograms are hand etched, and actually appear on each side of the 12″ vinyl.

The artwork is stellar, and the music is very conceptual as well, fitting into the whole space narrative (we assume) of the record.

It’s meditative and bright – the buzzing transitions of “Space Queen” fold neatly into the mix, with elongated synth chords and laser beams effects producing an ethereal (Yes cosmic), quality.

A little hard to pin down, it’s a genre bending concoction of classical music (you can hear each twang and note of a warm classical guitar) and cello, played against some bombastic electronic beats. (Blue Prism)

In a statement, the duo had this to say ” A Cosmic Gift is a collaboration between artists Brandon Burger (Parallel) and Richard Houghten (Bloomypetal) of Southern California. Together they manifest music that’s meant to be listened to while traveling the galaxy and exploring the mind.”
